Jacob Gunnell is an undergraduate student at BYU majoring in Electrical Engineering (expected graduation June 2026). He joined CamachoLab in September 2025.
Jacob is fascinated by the structure and elegance of photonics, electromagnetics, and quantum mechanics, and so has been drawn to research with CamachoLab. Currently, he works on optimizing Genqo.jl, a Julia library for modelling entangled photon sources to be used in the realization of a quantum internet. In the future, he is interested in researching superconducting qubits, color center quantum memories, or photonic interconnects to bring scalable, error-corrected quantum computing technology one step closer to reality.
When he's not in the lab writing code, Jacob enjoys playing double bass with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra, listening to and composing classical music, thinking about philosophy, going to the gym, and cooking.
